At YFC we connect our residents with the world; we connect local markets with global ones; we connect a world of tourists with the joys of a New Brunswick vacation; and we connect a large part of New Brunswick with economic benefits that improve lives province-wide.
To local New Brunswickers, YFC is simply “the airport”. A single entity. A place on the map. But the organization and operation of YFC is slightly more complex. Think of YFC as the physical infrastructure of the airport. This infrastructure is managed, operated, and developed by the not-for-profit corporation of the Fredericton International Airport Authority Inc. (FIAA). Most commercial and public services and products at the airport are delivered by independent businesses operating from within the YFC structure. The airport is, therefore, the sum of many parts, including hundreds of committed people.
No matter how often you fly, YFC is an essential asset to the communities of central and western New Brunswick.
The current expansion will increase the size of the terminal by 50% to accommodate traveller numbers that have been steadily climbing for a decade. Renovations will ensure increased traveller comfort and improved facilities for our tenants and partners, laying the groundwork for continued growth.
The New Terminal
The expansion will increase the size of the terminal by 50 per cent, making it larger, more comfortable, and a better ambassador for our vibrant capital region.
When the project is complete, travellers will benefit from:
- An easier check-in process, with a more efficient traffic flow for passengers and additional ticket counters
- Permanent, more efficient security screening lines
- More comfortable space with plenty of natural light
- Additional space to accommodate YFC’s current traffic and expected growth
- A more pleasant experience in the departures lounge, with amenities such as:
- Full café area – grab a coffee and a bite to eat once you’ve cleared security
- Children’s play area to make the travel experience easier for families
- More seating
- Additional washrooms
The community is at the heart of our business, and inspired the new terminal design. We are proud to be the gateway to New Brunswick’s Capital Region, and the new terminal will be an ambassador for our region’s culture and natural beauty.
When the project is complete, you’ll enjoy a modernized airport with interior design inspired by the colours of the Saint John River Valley.
Our purpose may be moving people and goods, but the Fredericton International Airport (YFC) is much more than an air transportation gateway. The strength of our community—our local economy—is inextricably linked to the success of our region’s international airport. As such, the airport is a key driver of our community’s vitality.
YFC’s total economic impact can be broken down into such things as GDP (Gross Domestic Product), taxes, employment (and employment income), and the reinvestment the airport makes in the regional economy.
A recent economic research study concluded that regular operations at YFC support 662 full-time equivalent jobs, $38.8 million in GDP, and $25.8 million in labour income to New Brunswick annually. The terminal expansion and renovation will enable the airport to continue to increase traffic—and economic impact—as well as generate an additional 572 full-time equivalent jobs during the construction phase.
